Kharrazi Sends Message to UN Secretary General on Tajikistan

TEHRAN Iran's Foreign Minister, Kamal Kharrazi sent a message to UN Secretary General Kofi Annan expressing concern over the growing tension and unrest in Tajikistan and alerting him to the possibility of the spreading of conflict in the capital city of Dushanbe. Kharrazi added that under such circumstances all the agreements reached during the course of negotiation based on trust in order to pave the way for peace and stability in Tajikistan has been disrupted.

This situation has caused much concern among the regional countries, particularly the Islamic Republic of Iran which shares historical, cultural, language and religious commonalties with that neighboring country. Kharrazi expressively stated that like in the past, the Islamic Republic of Iran still believes that the only way to achieve a just and a permanent peace in Tajikistan would be a simulteneous and timely implementation of agreements and Tajik peace protocols.

The foreign minister further said, The settlement of differences should come under negotiations and exchange of dialogs; therefore, it is anticipated that through your mediatory initiatives two parties be encouraged to continue their negotiations and execute the previously reached accords. Expressing Iran's readiness in providing all possible assistance, Kharrazi stated that I am sure the Tajik leaders' show of constraint and wisdom; their enforcing all the provisions of accord accepted by them as the two Tajik committed parties; your realistic approach and the endeavors of international organization as guaranteers of the implementation of peace accord, altogether will curtail the success of enemies of peace and stability in Tajikistan and the Central Asian Republics.
